Weedman Design Partners is an equal opportunity employer.

About WDP

Weedman Design Partners is an independent interior design studio founded in Portland in 2003 by Arielle and Travis Weedman. We design places people want to be.

Our work spans restaurants, workplaces, retail environments, multifamily communities, private clubs, and residences. We believe thoughtful design starts with people and carries through to the smallest details. Our Northwest Portland studio is also home to Gallery WDP, where art, design, and community come together.

An opportunity to grow with us

After more than 20 years in business, we are entering an exciting new chapter with a renewed focus and a broad range of projects. We are looking for an experienced design professional to work directly with Travis and Arielle and contribute meaningfully to what comes next.

We are considering two complementary areas of expertise, architectural design and interior design, and have created a posting for each. We expect to fill one position initially, with the possibility of adding another as our work grows. We are most interested in finding the right person, whose skills, judgment, and initiative will make a lasting contribution.

The position

We are looking for a Senior Interior Designer with a sophisticated design perspective and the technical expertise to take projects from concept through construction and installation.

This is not a furnishings-only position. You should be equally comfortable developing a concept, resolving a challenging plan, producing an architectural drawing set, detailing custom millwork, creating strong renderings, and specifying the finishes and furnishings that bring a project together. You will work directly with Travis and Arielle, clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors across commercial and residential projects.

What you will do

  • Lead and contribute to commercial and residential projects, from programming and concept through installation.
  • Develop design concepts, space plans, material palettes, and interior architectural solutions.
  • Prepare and coordinate construction documents, permit drawings, elevations, finish plans, and millwork details in AutoCAD.
  • Create detailed SketchUp models, realistic renderings, and polished presentation materials.
  • Select and specify finishes, lighting, furniture, fixtures, and custom furnishings.
  • Develop FF&E schedules, specifications, and budgets; coordinate purchasing, procurement, and installation.
  • Apply relevant codes and accessibility requirements, working with architects of record and consultants.
  • Manage deliverables, schedules, budgets, client communication, and consultant coordination.
  • Participate in presentations, field visits, vendor meetings, construction administration, and installations.
  • Maintain excellent design and drawing standards while offering useful ideas for improvement.

What we are looking for

  • Ideally 8+ years in interior design or interior architecture; exceptional candidates with 5+ years of substantial experience will be considered.
  • Education in interior design, interior architecture, or a related field, or equivalent expertise; advanced education welcome.
  • A strong portfolio of completed work demonstrating excellent design judgment.
  • Significant experience in commercial and residential interiors, including hospitality, workplaces, multifamily projects, residential renovations, or custom homes.
  • Demonstrated ability to personally produce construction documents and technical drawings.
  • Strong AutoCAD and SketchUp proficiency, including 3D modeling and rendering.
  • Experience with FF&E specifications, vendor coordination, procurement, and installation.
  • Experience managing projects and clients, with strong communication and organizational skills. NCIDQ certification is welcome but not required.

Who will enjoy working here

You love good design and the work required to make it real. You have a point of view, but you are open to discussion, feedback, and better solutions. You balance the creative ambition of a project with budget, schedule, technical accuracy, and construction realities.

You are dependable, proactive, and comfortable making decisions. You follow through, speak up when something needs attention, and appreciate being involved in the full life of a project rather than just one piece of it.

Our studio and work environment

We use established drawing and project management standards, with AutoCAD and SketchUp at the core of our design workflow. Asana supports project assignments and accountability; Harvest tracks time; Studio Webware supports FF&E schedules and procurement; Dropbox and Google Workspace support coordination. We work on Macs and welcome thoughtful improvements to systems that already serve us well.

This position involves client meetings and visits to local project sites, so the ability to travel to those locations is important.

How to apply

Please send your resume, portfolio, and a short introduction to careers@weedmandesignpartners.com. We would love to see completed commercial and residential projects, planning, technical documents, renderings, and FF&E selections.
