Works by Roberta Aylward
Show Dates: March 14-May 8
Opening Reception: March 14 | 4:30-7:30PM

In Body Language, Roberta Aylward explores the role of the subconscious in art-making—inviting the body, rather than conscious thought, to guide the process. Through instinctive gestures, revisions, and moments of emergence, the work becomes a record of lived experience: abstract at first glance, yet often tipping into the familiar as figurative forms appear unexpectedly.
Featuring new drawings and paintings, Body Language presents a fresh body of work shaped by intuition and the subconscious—where forms emerge through gesture, revision, and discovery. Aylward’s practice is fueled by experimentation—disassembling and reassembling surfaces, drawing and erasing, pushing the work until it “clicks” into a new kind of coherence—one that’s felt as much as it’s understood.
Roberta Aylward is a multidisciplinary artist based in Portland, Oregon. She earned a BFA in Painting from The College of Santa Fe, and her work is held in private collections throughout the U.S., with exhibitions including Tacoma Art Museum and The Painting Center (New York), among others.
