In Search of Portland

Longtime architecture journalist and photographer Brian Libby shares a selection of photos from his new book, In Search of Portland: Exploring a Transforming City (Oregon State University Press), a blend of architectural walking tour, cultural history, and memoir.

Taken over the past 25 years in downtown, Old Town and the Pearl District, the images feature a combination of beloved landmarks and lesser-known gems. Also featured in this exhibit are hand-drawn illustrations from In Search of Portland by local artist and architect Nicolai Kruger. Opening in tandem with the release of In Search of Portland, this exhibition is part of the book's launch, offering a first look at the images alongside the story they tell.

About the Artist

Brian Libby is a Portland-based journalist, critic, and photographer who has spent more than 25 years covering architecture, visual art, and film. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, Dwell, Metropolis, The Architect's Newspaper, Oregon ArtsWatch, and The Oregonian, among others, and he has long chronicled the city's built environment through his Portland Architecture blog. In Search of Portland grew out of that ongoing attention to the city, drawing on decades of observation to trace how Portland has changed and who has shaped it.
