Chown Hardware is the oldest family-owned hardware and fixture retailer in North America, and a resource our own studio has relied on for years — so designing their new Seattle showroom felt like a long relationship coming full circle. It needed to speak to design professionals, contractors, and everyday shoppers alike, holding onto the charm of a vintage hardware store while feeling as clear and current as anything we'd design today.
Get out of the product's way
Wide-plank floors, white walls, and white oak casework stay quiet on purpose, so the lighting, bath, and plumbing collections are what actually catch your eye.
Build a showroom that can change its mind
Moveable display walls and adjustable lighting let Chown's team curate new vignettes and tell new product stories constantly, without ever rebuilding the room.
Give bath its own floor
A second-floor mezzanine separates bathtubs and working plumbing fixtures from the main hardware floor, so each collection gets room to actually be experienced.

Concept through opening: the design, the documents, and the delivery were all handled in house.
Design
Concept development, space planning, interior architecture, lighting design, materials and finish selection, and custom casework and fixture design across a two-level showroom.
Documentation
Construction documentation, consultant coordination, and technical detailing for the display walls, lighting systems, and custom casework.
Delivery
Procurement, installation, and full project management, carried out in close coordination with Chown's own team.
